Dietmar Systems was founded by Mr. Shashank Dinkar Kulkarni, an IIT Kharagpur Alumnus, in 1993. In 1992, Mr. Shashank Dinkar Kulkarni (mostly known as S D Kulkarni), at the young age of 30, won the President's Award for developing a 'Portable Hardness Tester' for the first time in India. The following year, Mr. Kulkarni started producing these Portable Hardness Testers along with other Electronic and Mechanical devices with the intention of providing high quality Test Instruments at reasonable prices to the Indian Engineering Industry. He named this small proprietary venture as 'Dietmar Systems', after the German scientist Dietmar Leeb - the inventor of the Leeb Hardness Testing Principle. After years of struggle, a small Customer Base was built, which began expanding itself gradually.
